Across Borders is a non-profit (501 c 3) organization partnering with nationals to help bring physical aid, to the most desperate regions of the world, through micro-economic development.

MARK CHARLES
Mark Charles grew up under the apartheid government in South Africa. As a young boy, he was subject to the harsh realities of living under a white-only government.  After graduating from high school in 1978, Mark received a scholarship to study in the USA. This was his escape to a life of great opportunity and freedom. Mark completed his studies – married Lisa,  in 1987 and lived in the States until 1995.

Together with Lisa and their two children, he moved back to South Africa in January 1996.  They went back to work amongst the Zulu tribe.  Their main focus, during their years in Africa, was working with children.  They started feeding programs and sponsored children to attend school. They helped start a preschool by providing training for Zulu women to run the school. They implemented various training projects for Zulu men and women. They also built a community center in the squatter-camp they worked in. Their work was also amongst HIV+ and AIDS victims.

Mark traveled to remote villages and the rainforest in Madagascar, seven times, to work amongst the poor.  He helped start many micro-businesses amongst the Malagasy people. Mark is passionate about helping the poor and feels very comfortable traveling to some of the most desperate places around the world.

After living in South Africa for seven years, Mark and his family returned to the States in 2002.  His sole purpose for returning was to be a spokesperson for the downtrodden around the world. As Executive Director of World Impact and now Across Borders, he has overseen work in 30 countries.  Mark has been to almost 20 countries over the past four years.  He has been instrumental in building churches and children’s homes, digging water wells, setting up micro-businesses, sponsoring children, initiating adoptions, taking medical and work teams to third world countries, providing food, clothing and shelter, raising money for Tsunami and Katrina, providing medical care and medicines, renovating schools, etc.

Mark is truly dedicated to working amongst the poor. He believes that many suffer in silence. Their desperate cry for help needs to be heard.  All over the world, Mark has seen dreams achieved, hope regained and a renewed determination to live again.
